The Christmas decorations on the Castellana are now shining bright as the days seem to get colder and little by little Madrid is getting itself ready to welcome the festive season. We can all agree that the best part about it is to indulge in some delicious winter food and drinks in a cosy, festive atmosphere. Especially during those well-deserved shopping breaks. I won’t discuss in this article the traditional Christmas places that you can go to, but the ones that not only do I love but offer that little something extra making them an unique experience.
Discover our favourite places in Madrid and with a special event this weekend to get into that festive feeling with your dog. Let’s not forget that there is no better time of the year to spend it with family including the furry members.
Mamá Framboise is the iconic Pâtisserie and Salon De Thé in Madrid; its macaroons, tarts and other sweets are just as beautiful on the eye as they are delicate on the pallet.
Pâtisserie is an art mastered and revisited by Alejandro Montes; Chef Pâtissier, Maître Chocolatier and founder of Mamá Framboise; who has won several awards for his savoir-faire. By creating Mamá Framboise Alejandro Montes wanted to bring gastronomic pâtisserie to Spain, his way to share with others his childhood memories and relive special times through his creations.
Christmas time is one of them and I have to mention that Mamá Framboise had the most Christmassy atmosphere in Madrid. Christmas songs were playing in the background and the kid’s train track was running on the ceiling in the retro décor on Jorge Juan street. As a Christmas special you can try their famous Roscons such as chocolate, ginger, raspberry and classic. The festive menu also offers the inevitable turrón, a cute ginger man, chocolates and more… all available to eat as individual portions or to pre-order.
If you like fine pâtisserie or the atmosphere of a Salon De Thé to enjoy some Christmas specialities then Mamá Framboise is a fantastic place to visit with your dog. The true French that I am, will be back in no time for their Galette Des Rois, which will bring back some of my childhood memories, just as Alejandro Montes intended with Mamá Framboise.
Don’t miss out on the Vogue Flower Market this Saturday the 15th of December, from 12a.m to 20p.m on Jorge Juan. Mamá Framboise will also have a stand serving their Christmas treats and hot chocolate for the occasion.

If you are looking to buy differently this Christmas, discover upcoming brands on the market and find the perfect gifts for everyone on your list, then El Paracaidista is your place to go. This concept store in Malasana has now launched its special Winter Stories Pop Up for Christmas with more than 100 independent brands spread across three floors. You will find a well-curated selection of clothing, décor, books, fragrances and more design led products in the biggest pop up store of Madrid.
On the third floor you can visit Aristopet, the online pet store for animal lovers, they have a large selection of brands for your pets with accessories from Bowl&Bone, Trixie, Kong toys and our favourite treats from Lily’s Kitchen… Even a ball pit has been created in their area for your dog to have some fun whilst you shop for his/her Christmas.
If you feel like having a food, coffee or a cocktail break you can always make your way to one of the following restaurants located in the building. From Parq restaurant or Cubanismo Cocteleria on the top floors down to Levadura Madre counter on the ground floor there is no need to leave El Paracaidista. I am already familiar with Levadura Madre on Ortega y Gasset, a place that I can highly recommend for their delicious bread and pastries made of 100% organic ingredients.
Winter Stories Pop Up is a great way to enjoy some Christmas shopping, support new businesses as well as grabbing a quick bite without leaving the building and all accompanied by your dog.
Celicioso is the pioneer gluten free bakery in Spain and the best out there. A concept that was first thought for people suffering from Celiac disease allowing them to enjoy eating cakes which not only are 100% gluten free but also delicious. No matter your diet or intolerances Celicioso accommodates itself to everyone’s needs and preferences with plenty of lactose free, sugar free, and vegan options.
It has now been over a year that I first discovered Celicioso on number 19 Barquillo and since I have visited on numerous occasions for its gorgeous interior. I fell for their triple chocolate vegan cake, one of their must try on the menu for any chocolate lovers. To celebrate the festive season, you can now try their limited edition of lemon, ginger and cinnamon or banana and chocolate’s Christmas cupcakes .
A stop at Celicioso makes the perfect afternoon break to try their Christmas cupcakes or Turrón Tart. Go before it’s too late and don’t forget that you can also pre-order their Roscons & Cakes on the menu.

Christmas is definitely known to be the season when we drink and eat a bit more, so what a better way than spending en evening tasting wine. Tucked into the Salamanca neighbourhood Mares Vinos is your local wine shop offering a wide range of regional as well as international wines.
More than just a wine shop, it’s cosy with a seating area furnished with vintage armchairs, wine casks and high chairs to enjoy a glass wine paired with a cheese platter. A lovely place which also organises tasting events and owned by the friendly Maria.
So, bring your dog along for a quiet wine night and perhaps get your Christmas gifts sorted for friends or treat yourself with a few bottles from their beautiful selection.
